Teaching writing this year has been an enjoyable task. Our Writing Fair, held each May, highlights students' writing, giving students, parents and teachers a chance to celebrate students' hard work. Some professional resources that have supported my instruction this year are 6 +1 Traits of Writing:The Complete Guide for Primary Grades; Theory and Practice (Ruth Culham, Scholastic: 2003), Writing Anchors (Jan Wells and Janine Reid, Pembroke: 2005), and Creating Young Writers (Vicki Spandel, Allyn & Bacon: 2003). Our district's mentorship program provided the opportunity for teachers to explore resources and exchange teaching strategies focused on writing. In addition, the resource, Writing Anchors, was provided by the district for professional development within a bookclub.
